Scribe's Work - Baldur's Gate Campaign 5th Ed. (Player) - Part II
PREVIOUSLY
I am also (although IDK for long since my schedule is tough) in a 5th campaign with friends with which I started AD&D 2nd back in the day. They are also players in my OD&D campaign. We are playing a Baldur's Gate theme campaign that, from what I understand, is DM's Guild but not official material.
This is the second game. Last game with met with lots of fan-service (although we had fun) such as Khalid, Jaheira and Imoen. Basically we came to be aware of a conspiracy by the (probably) Zentharim that we have to investigate. We left resting in Baldur's Gate.

PLAY REPORT - Investigation in Baldur's Gate
After our fight with the sailor, we started investigating people around the tavern to gather information. We didn't learn much of their link with the Zentharim, so we moved to another inn to sleep away from that part of the city. We took some time to discuss our plan for the next day and sleep.
The next day, we started by investigating a lot of the different merchants, hearing rumours about them being blackmailed for various reasons by the Zentharim: one of the blacksmith, Yeslick (yes, that Yeslick), told us about potential activity in an ancient mine in the cloakwood (yes, that mine/cloakwood). He gaves us pointers on the mine and told us maybe the Zentharim was there: strange things were happening over there recently.
From other merchants, we also learned that some of them were getting loans from the Zentharim in a building nearby: most likely a way to blackmail people. We even learned that they had blackmailed one of them through kidnapping of his wife. We found someone willing to give us information in exchange for us delivering his father that had been kidnapped by them. He had some maps of the city his possession to help us navigate underground. So in order to get this, we cleared his basement of carrion crawler (that had popped up from a sewer).
We then decided to rest a bit during the day. During that waiting time we did a stake out. When some shady people starting moving around at the beginning of night, we decided to go and check it out to inspect their building.
On the way there we got ambushed in the middle of the night by spiders. We cut them off and then called it off for the night.
AFTERMATH
The plot thicken. It's difficult to see what will be happening. We mostly got information, very few XP and gold.
TLDR
In a sentence, what happened: Some investigation and fooling around with spiders and crawlers.
What impact all of this will have: Unsure yet. But I guess we will be able to infiltrate that possible Zentharim building from underground.
What I take from this: For those that played BG, this campaign is a fan-fic/fan-service. And I'm not saying this positively. Every NPC is from the game. I hope it opens up later and is less copy-paste form the game with a different main quest.
